After Rick Redewill's successful Lone Star Saloon opened* in San Francisco's South of Market neighborhood, he decided to open up another bar nearby. He chose 201 9th Street as the location, and Cocktails opened in winter of 1992 as a multilevel mainstream club. The restaurant and lounge were located on the ground flood, with "The Pit" located downstairs.
